
*According to the a 2005 World Bank estimate, 42% of India's falls below the international poverty line of $1.25 a day (PPP, in nominal terms Rs. 21.6 a day in urban areas and Rs 14.3 in rural areas);
*In 1980 it was 60%.
*According to the criterion used by the Planning Commission of India 27.5% of the population was living below the poverty line in 2004–2005
*Decreased from 51.3% in 1977–1978, and 36% in 1993-1994.
*India has a higher rate of malnutrition among children under the age of three (46% in year 2007) than any other country in the world.
*Still India is having the face of " Beggars Country".
*Eradication of poverty can only be a very long-term goal in India.

but the source plannin commission does not actually visit all rural area ,i myself expericed this.Me a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine And Surgery student, in my first year I went for a camp [NSS camp].In that we visitd a rural area in mumbai itself it was a 10 days camp ,every alternate day we used to go for survey [malnourishment,ppl with bloody last stage diseases i hv seen all these] whn we askd thos ppl they said no one came for chkin malnourishd children and all ,this shows hw the country is takin care about vanishin the poverty...

here i would like to tell something! there is no point in expecting govt'd help in this regard. coz thy r impotent. so ma humble request is, try to donate something, to wind up this poverty :)

I can never imagine what could be the solution as such.. its all interconnected.. all the wealth is being deposited in swiss banks!.. i think there is some fundamental problem.. it must be in our constitution probably..! i guess democracy is a failure.. after all!
